Summary

In article on the example of a chain of transformation of iron and its compounds Using chains of chemical transformations as a tool for evaluating the level of students’ knowledge in chemistry is offered. A task on transformations of iron and its compounds is given as an example. Similar schemes of transformations can be also used for systematization and generalization of knowledge. Application of similar tasks enables teachers to save time, to explain genetic linkage between major classes of inorganic compounds, to develop students’ informational skills, i.e. the translation of text information into chemical signs, formulas and equations.

The article examines computer modeling as a tool that helps students to acquire knowledge. The models discussed demonstrate the distribution of electron density in the molecules of compounds. Using these models enables student to deduce chemical properties of substances. Several specific questions to be solved with the aid of the computer are listed. Some examples of certain chemicals compounds are included. Comparison of chemical properties of these substances is made.
