Summary

The article shows that science education is intended to ensure the formation of scientific literacy among graduates; to acquaint them with the specifics of scientific thinking and the scientific method of cognition. To implement these approaches, the author identified two methodological areas of implementation of the scientific method of cognition in the school chemistry course. In considering these trends it is proven that reliance on the scientific method of cognition is an effective methodological technique of formation of natural-science literacy and achievement of educational outcomes in studying chemistry.

The scientific principles of modern chemical production are important components of the content of the students’ polytechnical training. The process of studying chemical technology basics enables students to connect theory with practice, deepens and reinforces the knowledge of the theoretical foundations of chemistry, helps graduates choose their future careers. Each teacher needs to make corrections to the content of the chemistry course and introduce a regional component, including the study of basic chemical production of the city or region. The article considers the possibility of using smartphone software for analytical purposes in a chemical laboratory. Using the example of quantitative determination of copper and cobalt ions, the possibility of replacing a laboratory spectrophotometer to the smartphone for performing photometric analysis is shown. The use of smartphones for these purposes will expand the possibilities of analytical research in the organization of students’ research and project activities.

Regional Olympiad «Khimonya»: forming cognitive interest in chemistry

Summary

The authors present a new technique of forming students’ cognitive interest to chemistry by organizing the Regional Chemistry Olympiad “Khimonya”. The Olympiad is conducted by the Tver regional branch of the Association of Chemistry Teachers and Lecturers of Russia in the framework of the system of students’ extracurricular activities in the Tver region. The article summarizes the experience of organizing the Chemistry Olympiad “Khimonya” for the five years of its implementation. The detailed methodical recommendations on the organization of the Olympiad are given, and the results of approbation of this technique are presented.
