Hydrolysis of salts in aqueous solutions is considered with a view to chemical equilibrium – as the reverse reaction of neutralization. Molecular and ionic equations of hydrolysis, including stepwise processes, are presented. The applicability of the basic qualitative and quantitative laws of chemical equilibrium to the description of the hydrolysis of salts is discussed. A method for calculating pH in a solution of hydrolysing salt is presented.
